Funding Presentation Case Study

(1) CHALLENGE: Last year, my student from Enurgate, the leading Guatemalan energy company, had a very important upcoming presentation for his company that he needed to prepare for.  He wanted to nail the presentation and manage the Q&A session afterwards himself without relying on his colleages who have better English and usually dominate. We had three weeks!

(2) DELIVERY: His company had already produced the slide deck he wanted to use.  We practiced his delivery focusing on pronunciation of sounds difficult for Spanish speakers.  We also discussed vocabulary choice and worked on natural expressions.  Especially tricky are the words that are shared between Spanish and English but have different pronunciation.    He needed to be clear and properly understood, so this was a priority we worked very hard on.

(3) Q&A:  Next was the practice for Q/A.   From his presentation, we picked out areas we thought his financial audience would have questions about; for example, current data where his presenation was not up to date,  reasons behind current conditions, basis for forecasts and predictions about the future. I played the part of one of the bankers: he practiced smoothly and confidently explaining answers to my questions.

(4) PERFORMANCE:  On the Enurgate website, you can find the announcement of their successful funding venture, so I think we can assume that his presentation went very well indeed. (see picture and announcement below)
